Our Words Heal

When the world tells us we’re broken, how do we heal?

Philadelphia is a city that’s hurting. Plagued by violence, trauma hurts our minds, bodies, and communities. But healing happens here too. In a campaign for the Center for Nonviolence and Social Justice, we set out to change the conversation.

Sharing our stories, raising new voices.

'Hurt people hurt people.' This common adage speaks to the ripple effects of trauma, but can easily further stigmatize. In truth, hurt people can also help heal.

Our Words Heal is a campaign amplifying community-driven conversations about trauma. Through first-person stories, we shine a light on the expertise of lived experience and honor the healing that happens every day.

A community in conversation

We soft-launched Our Words Heal at Power 99’s Peace on the Streets concert with an interactive installation asking the community to share how they heal. Pubic vulnerability is an ask we didn’t take lightly. We had trained peer healers leading the way. In less than two hours 414 people shared their stories, hopes, and healing messages.
